About Consultant

Carol Chepkoech is the Managing Partner at Mutai Advocates LLP, where she brings nearly eight (8) years of extensive legal experience across a range of sectors. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Strathmore University and a Post-Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. Carol is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of the Law Society of Kenya.

Carol’s practice primarily focuses on the Banking and Financial Services Industry, where she provides expert counsel on commercial transactions, corporate law, securities perfection, landlord and tenancy matters, and dispute resolution. She has also been instrumental in advising on a variety of technology projects, including large-scale, multi-million-dollar cross-border initiatives, and has also offered guidance on Intellectual Property laws in multiple jurisdictions.

Carol’s legal career began with an internship at NIC Bank in 2017, where she supported the legal team in drafting contracts, managing litigation matters, and advising various departments. She thereafter took a role as a Legal Assistant in Credit Risk at the bank, where she focused on debt recovery, including security realization, litigation, and negotiating settlements. She also assisted external counsel in managing credit-related litigation and provided legal advisory support on matters related to debt recovery.

Prior to founding the Firm, Carol served as a Legal Counsel at NCBA Bank Kenya PLC from October 2019 to 2025, where she undertook a wide range of responsibilities. These include advising on corporate lending transactions, structuring deals to protect the bank’s interests, and drafting and negotiating various contracts, including service agreements, leases, licenses, and IT contracts. She also managed litigation matters, working closely with external counsel on strategy, negotiations, and settlements. Additionally, Carol was responsible for providing general legal advice across multiple departments, including Operations and Business Units.

Among Carol's key achievements at NCBA Bank is her leadership in theContract Templates Project, where she worked with her team to create standardized templates for common contracts used by the bank. She also played a pivotal role in the implementation of the Data Protection Legislation, where she helped establish privacy policies, privacy statements, and data processing agreements, contributing to the bank's compliance with evolving data protection laws. In her leadership role at the firm, Carol is known for her commitment to delivering exceptional client service and her ability to navigate complex legal landscapes with precision and professionalism.

Beyond her legal work, Carol is deeply committed to her faith and community involvement. She serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team at the Global Mentorship Network, a Christian non-profit operating in Kenya, the USA, and several other countries. There, she mentors individuals, supporting them in their personal and professional growth
